Add a CommentI love the book! I totally think that Kelsey should be with Ren(although there's still Kishan).
Pretty good! I say that Kishan is better than Ren, though ;)
personally, i thought this book was amazing. i loved all the descriptive details that houck has written and the adventures are suspenseful and so cool! i would definitely recommend this book.=]
First of all, the book didn't really have a great story line. The description of the book seemed better writing than the book itself and the writing reminding me of fanfiction or a child's writing. It's in first person, so it sounded very choppy and non descriptive. Maybe because it's the author's first book, but I don't believe it'd be a book I'd recommend for teens. It is something a 10 year old may want to read.
I think someone should recommend the library to buy Tiger's Quest, the second book of this series. This book was good even though Ren seemed too perfect. A bit like Twilight but with the curse and tiger. Way better than twilight!!! <3 Ren and Kishan!
please buy tiger's quest, library people! :D
I really enjoyed reading this book, because even though at times it was a little cheesy, for me, it worked with this book. This book captured my attention from beginning to end with adventure and romance. It made me laugh, smile, and read it with rapt attention. The references to the different areas of culture made it interesting, even though there is a lot of reference to different foods. The ending left me eager for the next books, and I'm looking forward to reading them. Perhaps this book is to the tastes of some, and not to others, but it is worth checking out before deciding.
The story in a nutshell: Kelsey meets a circus tiger, a tiger with a secret. She feels an immediate attachment to him, wishes he was free, and finds out that he is really a hundreds-year-old Indian prince under an ancient curse. Much curse-breaking ensues under the heat of the Indian sun. I really wanted to like this book: urban fantasy, Indian mythology, a romance story, all in a planned out epic fantasy series. I really didn't like this book. The writing was awkward and in many ways reminded me of fan fiction or games of Dungeons & Dragons I've played: the descriptions were over the top and the characters felt two-dimensional and not well thought-out. You'd think a guy who's spent most of the last century as a tiger and who was born in the 1600s on another continent would have more formal language, but he's just as slangy in his speech as Kelsey. And the constant dialogue of food! Oh my God, the food. I felt like I was reading a culinary travelogue as told by the world's most unadventurous eater. This really had potential, and this is a freshman book for Colleen Houck. I will try the next book in the series (Tiger's Quest) but if it's more bad food blogging, I will have to give this series a miss.
As Deppfan put it, the author does write almost every action Kelsey does, but I think that she was trying to make it easier for the reader to picture the story, almost like a movie. I actually picked up this book as a random read, but I think that it was a very... enlightening read. ;P I like how the author uses the references to actual mythology and religion, and the very beautiful descriptions of the nature in some of the sections. All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed it, and even read during an extremely boring section in band class. ;D
