Not terribly well written, simplistic in several ways, but the characters are very compelling. I even wanted to reread right away because I wanted to spend more time with them. An author worth watching to see if she can free the great characters from her clunky prose.

Very good book. A lot more pleasent than what most modern teen books are like. A great book for moms and daughters to read together in my opinion.

Okay, this book was too good!! I liked it because it wasn't totally predictable like most books. The story itself was amazing!! Eilis, I would like more books. Great book.

Very good first half, but the pace in the second half dragged. Too much filler: "What if this or that, what is he/she doing now" and so on. Too much pondering filling up too many pages

This book was so good! the plot always kept you guessing and you never knew exactly how the story would end. it was a very unpredictible ending. Eilis o'Neal nded this book so well. you were not wanteign anything else at the end, she closed up the hole thing very well and left nothing out. she developed all the characters well throughout so that you felt that you knew them personally and how they would react to each new problem or situation. would recomend to anyone!!!

pretty good book, and a really clever lot idea. but i felt that it wasn't as engrossing as i expected it to be. also the romance wasn't as good. i couldn't understand Sinda. one second she was talking about how she loved kiernan, then a second later she was pushing him away. it didn't seem realistic.

Nalia has led a privileged life as princess and heir to the throne of Thorvaldor, until her sixteenth birthday. Nalia is then told that she is not really the princess. She has simply been a stand-in for the real princess, living in hiding until she came of age. Now known as Sinda, the false princess is shipped back to an aunt that she doesn't know to live a poor, meager life. But Sinda has a latent talent for magic. When she returns to the city to study magic, Sinda reunites with her childhood friend and discovers an incredible secret that will affect the entire kingdom. Nalia/Sinda is a complicated girl, who faces adversity with strength and humility. She's easy to like, and though at first naïve, Sinda learns from her mistakes and always tries to do the right thing, even at the sake of her own safety. Her friendship-turned-romance with her childhood friend Keirnan is sweet and endearing. The story is completely engaging from the very beginning, and proves impossible to put down. Full of drama, magic, suspense, and romance, this is an impressive debut. O'Neal's vibrant characters are matched with a fast-paced adventure and intrigue that was over way to soon.
