Comment
Add a CommentFound it utterly digusting and a disgrace to the entire series. Had such high hopes for it and it's slightly promising trailers, the only reason I saw the whole thing was because the movie ticket was pretty expensive. I've tried to get my friends to watch the original series because that is one of the best animated shows of all time, but they won't go anywhere near it due to their watching this. I mean, you know it's going to be bad when, 30 seconds in during the opening voice-over they mispronounce Avatar. Just saying.
I was surprised at how much I liked this movie. I am also surprised it never had a sequel. The movie ends with an obvious plea for a sequel. The story and action are good. The special effects are top notch. I'm not sure whether they lost money or didn't make enough on this movie, but it is definitely worth watching. Very family friendly.
I must say I really enjoyed this movie. I couldn't stop laughing. The TV series was light years better than this thing. I could go into great detail of how they screwed this movie up (His name is not 'Ung'; Zukko's scar is supposed tobe disfiguring; Sukko was supposed to be comic relief but instead just stood there; Katara was lame; The air and water bendind looked cool but the fire and earth just looked sloopy and ridiculous; etc.) but I'm not going to. It couldn't have been worst, but that's why you must see it.
I haven't even seen the tv series however even I can tell there was not enough time for character development. Everything moved so quickly in the story line. If this was broken up a bit into a movie series and given more detail this would have been a better movie.
This movie was a complete waste of 103 minutes. It should have been at least two hours. The introduction was so much longer than it should have been. It was as bad as the "Alone in the Dark" introduction. Zuko's scar was just a bad make up job. The bending was weak: a whole dance just to shoot a little squirt a water, raise a pebble wall, shoot a puny fireball and lot of pointless staff waving just to conjure up a mild breeze. No one in the movie could not say Aang right. The actors kept changing their pronunciation. The only one that could say it right was the grandma. Everyone else said "Aung", "Aovatar" or "Avvater". Appa was the best character in this movie they even screwed him up too!
Movie could have been so much better. Casting of the title role with an obvious non-Asian is just dumb. As the same with the rest of the cast. Script was simplistic; direction was poor; and even the digital effects were goofy. M. Night should be banned from making any more movies. His movies kept getting worse, and are just sophomoric.
I really enjoyed this movie more than I thought I would. I never saw the cartoon so I didn't know exactly what to think about it, but I was happy none the less. I would recommend this movie to fans of fantasy type movies as well as to fans of kung-fu type action flicks.
Not knowing much about this series other than what I gleaned from my kids, I watched it with an open mind. I am a fan of a good fantasy flick and this one didn't disappoint me. I realize that purists have much to say about what is wrong with this movie (compared to the television series), but I enjoyed it. I liked that the story was simple and easy to follow. The action was full but not over the top. The effects, and there are a few, are well done. As the film progressed I found myself drawn into the story, wanting to know more about Aang's adventures and thinking " when are they making the next one?" I recommend this film for kids 8 and up, and a definite for those who enjoy an easy, likable piece of fantasy.
SO SO DVD C+
It was okay could have been a lot better and the TV series is much better. Benders used too much energy and moves to do too little. But I liked how you could only use the element if it was there, it added something, than in the TV series when you could make it whenever.
