Comment
Add a CommentJust finished this book but will have to read it again because if it is anti-gay I surely missed it. On the other hand just because you are parnoid doesn't mean that someone isn't out to get you. That last was for Brenda's benefit.
The first truly good book I've read this year, The Lost Gate is very entertaining. It weaves the lives of two boys, both very powerful mages with the ability to manipulate space-time. I don't believe it's anti-gay at all. The main character, Danny, has shaky morals at the beginning (although they improve over time) and this is definitely not a book for children. They say that you are best at writing characters that resemble you, so I do wonder what that says about Card...
it is very good

Most wonderful way to pass a rainy day- until the anti-gay slant comes up and destroys the concentration. It was completely gratuatious and didn't figure in plot at all, except as an author statement. Too bad.
Easy reading. Fun and light. Looking forward to the next book in the series.
Very good book, trying to keep liking OSC despite his (anti-gay) politics... but this book is excellent, especially if you have ever played the game "Portal".
Great story - can hardly wait for next in series. Read for a local SF club, and basically read in one day - a good sign for a book. It's more about a lost boy who grows up in a magical community but discovers the ability he has is forbidden and means death. His people are exiled from another world, now he's exiled from them and must rediscover his abilities on his own. Along the way he meets several helpful mentors, and some people wanting to take advantage of him, develops his skills and moral compass, and eventually does find that lost gate. Just in time for the sequel - hopefully soon to be released.
A great read but did not live up to it's potential. An intriguing mythology was set up but the characters were shallowly developed and the plot line dragged at some places but was rushed elsewhere. Hopefully, we'll see more to this universe (I can see a prequel working out)
A different twist on stories about the fairy folk. Enjoyed it but felt there was something left out. It felt like it was just the surface of the story. Maybe if he writes more of this story line, the story will be rounded more.
