"Don't be silly, young man. It's elephants all the way down."
The only sound from the birdcage was Bovril's maniacal laughter.

It took me a little longer to get into this one, but I still think it's awesome!
This book has the excitement that any would like to experience but the only flaw is that it is a little too easy for Expert readers like myself
the first book had a lot more action, but i think this one is way better! except when Lilit starts kissing "Dylan". all in all, id recomend this book to anyone who liked the first one and wants to read even more awesomeness!!! 4.5 out of five!
this is the first book of a trilogy. WW1 with blimps and stuff. it's pretty cool. Sam liked it.
This is the second book. It wasn't as good as the first but it still pulled me in teh plot and kept me guessing. It takws place in a changed new Europe and it really mixes up teh story.
Whoot! Fun read!
Part steampunk, part alternate biology, like the Temeraire series. Interesting concept, generally well developed. Good writing for the intermediate age group.
better than laviathan
In the second book in the trilogy, Alek and Deryn (who continues to disguise the fact that she's a girl) are both aboard the Leviathan as it flies towards the Ottoman Empire to deliver the gift to the Sultan. But as World War I continues to encroach across borders and the Germans and British face off in Istanbul, Alek and Deryn will be drawn into battles and revolutions that will threaten their efforts to create peace. An excellent follow-up to [Leviathan], this book is as strong if not more so. Alek and Deryn continue to develop as characters, although character is really secondary to plot, as in other Westerfeld's novels. But with a plot as interesting and fast-paced as this, lack of character depth is no flaw. Westerfeld continues to expand his steampunk world in which the conflict of WWI is based not just on politics but on decisions by nations to develop Clanker steam technology or Darwinist fabricated animal creations. Westerfeld's imagined creations are gorgeously brought to life by Keith Thompson's richly detailed illustrations, which make the narrative that much more compelling. The majority of the novel takes place in Istanbul, which provides a rich background for the action and adds a touch of exoticism. Highly recommended and I eagerly look forward to the final book in the trilogy.
