Summary
Add a SummaryEon is a cripple Dragoneye candidate, but he has the ability to see all twelve energy dragons at will, making him special. Even so, he was looked down upon, but he needed to become the Rat Dragoneye: otherwise, his master would have nothing left, and the friends he has made of some of his master's servants would be doomed to worse conditions than they were already in. But Eon could not give up hope, even if he was actually a 16-year-old girl named Eona and it was forbidden for females to use Dragon magic. If found out, she was as good as dead. But an unseen chance takes Eona on a path of more danger and more risks than she first imagined, and suddenly more than just the fate of her friends and master lie on her shoulders.

Add a CommentThis is an excellent work of very creative fantasy. It's Eastern setting is a nice change of pace from the standard "stock medieval fantasy world" setting. The writing is fast-paced and intense, and the author subtly toys with the ideas of gender and ability. It's fascinating, and a really, really interesting book. I would recommend it to anyone.
Awesome but not totally realistic. Great ending and strong characters. This book is really well put together and detailed.
This book is awesome!!! If you haven't already you should get it! NOW!!!
I looked at this book a few times but never really wanted to read it. I guess it was because the obvious Asia-centric style that was so different from the generic European fantasies. But finally, I got the nerve to read it. And it was amazing. Eona is thrown into a political conflict with almost no safe way out. The tension is always steadily climbing and although it is obvious what will happen in some scenes, the author does a wonderful job making you guess HOW. The Asian style with the dragons were very interesting. The only thing I did not like about the book was the bizarre twist at the end. It might throw you off, but probably not even close enough to make you stop reading. Eona is out now! Go request it or buy it! (P.S. Love how the author doesn't drag it out for on and on until it gets stale. The second book will be the conclusion.) Read other reviews by me if you want to see other teen-oriented books like this one.
This is one of those books you can not put down unless you fell asleep with it in your hands. I loved the range of characters and how it doesn't focus too much on the political trap that Eon is in. Be sure to have Eona next to you when you finish this one!
Such a beautiful book! Wonderful characters, and well written, flowing storyline that draws you in and makes you keep turning the pages. I read the whole thing cover to cover in a day- I couldn't stop! If you are a fan of Tamora Pierce's writing, a lot of the strong femininity is present here. A wonderful, wonderful read, although, as someone else mentioned, there are many mentions of eunuchs and transsexuals, so, not the best book for younger children, plus its rather long.
The best book I have ever read in a long while. Its breath taking. Eona (Eon) is Alana with a cooler temper. Every single page had me tensed, waiting for something to unravel.
Love it all other than the sun drug. but AWESOME!!
ok i have to admit.... THIS BOOK IS AWESOME i love every part of it
it was a little off. like how when u read a mystery story and youve already guessed who the culprit is. but alison changes it as soon as u think u know wat is going to happen
