Summary
Add a SummaryWhen Zoey gets "Marked" her whole life changes. She has to go to the House Of Night a high school for vampyres like herself. Its great if you complete all four years but if your body regects the change...you die. A different take on school through a diferent species. ALMOST similar to Harry Potter in the sense that its a school for a different species to learn how to control there different behavior. Great summer read!
The House of Night series is set in a world very much like our own, except in 16-year-old Zoey Redbird's world, vampires have always existed. In this first book in the series, Zoey enters the House of Night, a school where, after having undergone the Change, she will train to become an adult vampire--that is, if she makes it through the Change. Not all of those who are chosen do. It's tough to begin a new life, away from her parents and friends, and on top of that, Zoey finds she is no average fledgling. She has been Marked as special by the vampire Goddess, Nyx. But she is not the only fledgling at the House of Night with special powers. When she discovers that the leader of the Dark Daughters, the school's most elite club, is misusing her Goddess-given gifts, Zoey must look deep within herself for the courage to embrace her destiny--with a little help from her new vampire friends.
I wasn't at all sure I would like this young adult novel. The story of Zoey Redbird, a sixteen year old girl who is unhappy at home, becoming "marked" as a fledgling vampyre, just seemed a bit forced. I wanted to feel a part of her story but her angst was overwhelming and I couldn't really see where the plot was headed. However, about midway through, the book picked up steam and by the last few chapters, I was eagerly turning the pages in order to find out how Zoey's unusual powers would manifest and where it all would lead. Marked is an imaginative take on vampyres, weaving "old" pagan religious themes throughout and incorporating ancient history into its background. I liked the idea of a society where vampyrism is openly known and accepted, and I liked the School of Night where fledgling vampyres are taken for further training. I loved Zoey's learning to accept herself and step up as a leader at the school, and even the cursing seems realistic. What I didn't like was the obvious prejudice against traditional religion, and the "mini-sermons" we receive early on against drugs, drinking, and oral sex from Zoey's point of view. I liked Zoey's friends but felt that her acceptance into such a tight group so immediately didn't ring true, and I had to wonder at just why Erik, the hot young vampyre, was so attracted so quickly to Zoey. There are also some very lucky coincidences, such as Zoey's Native American grandmother having taught her purification rites which come in very handy. Thankfully these annoyances were overcome by the general storytelling and the excitement of the last half of the book.

KILLER! LOVE THE DAMN BOOK! COULDNT STOP TALKING ABOUT IT!
I loved this book by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast so much and hope that if you read this book you will like as much as i did. this book made me read 24-7. I loved how the main character was a normal high school girl to a vampire with magical powers the help Zoey and her new friends go through vampire high school also known as The House of Night. Hope you like this book too!
its actually really boring.... but the other books start to get good.....
Marked is about a teenage vampyre fledgling learning to cope with her new found talents. Zoey Redbird has to dal with new enemies, teachers, and love interests while not dying from the change like others have. This is a paranormal fiction book with romance and teenage subjects. It's not a typical vampire book that is out there and I did like it because of that. I suggeest this book to particular girls in middle and high school but anyone can enjoy this book. This is the first of the House of Night series to follow Zoey's journey.
The first couple books were really good, but now it just feels to me like its droning on and on. Vampire Academy is definitely a way better read, because with the whole series, I couldn't put it down one bit.
If I had a teenage daughter, I would not allow her to read this book. There is too much swearing and discussions of sex. I didn't care for the way Christians were portrayed nor for the pagan rituals.
Really good
This is a start great to a wonderful series that has quickly become one of my favorites. I like it sooo much better than Twilight but it skews older. A word for parents : These kids cuss, these kids talk about sex, and have it in later books. I think the content is reasonable for teenage readers. The characters are like able and the plot is engaging I also loved the Cherokee and Pagan themes throughout the series. This is a book I've re-read several times! I'd recommend it to anyone who likes urban fantasy with a touch of romance!
AWESOME books i absolutely love this book
