Add a CommentThis book was great! Pattyn is a very strong lead character, and is very relatable in how she begins to question her religion and every aspect of her life. It made me angry that her father abused her and her family, and no one even tried to stop it. Even the mother would ignore it when her own daughters were being beaten! This book was a little different than Ellen Hopkins's other books that I've read because it takes place from only one person's point of view rather than several. The ending was completely heartbreaking, and very unexpected. I would definitely recommend this book for high schoolers on up.
Pattyn is a fabulous character who embodies the typical teenage angst and rebellion very well - and at the same time remaining true to her roots, having an internal struggle with what has been expected of her and what it is she wants with her life. Though some facts stray from the truth about Mormonism, the basic idea of the extremist aspect of the religion is very close. Do not take it all as fact, it is exaggerated to drive the point home of how a violent man (her father) can become even more out of control when obsessed with religion and indulging in alcohol. Burned is one of Hopkin's less amazing books, but still good none the less. The side story of her aunts past, and what her father dealt with in his first marriage is what truly makes the book with reading.
Horrible book!!! If someone wishes to write a book they ought to do their research first. Nothing in this book is true to the real LDS faith (aka Mormonism). Perhaps she intended it to be one of the "Fundamentalist" Mormon communities? Very disappointing.
Good, Sad, Real. Personaly I dont like the idea That women are here to pop out babies, that we should only know how to drive if our men want us to??!! And all of the other ideas expressed. Its Wrong!
Sadly awesome book
i loved this book until the end...that was so sad...i wonder what she meant at the end though
I love all of her books!

BOOK WAS SOOOO GOOD.... IT WAS SAD TOOO, BUT I LOVED IT <3
A wonderful love story, and also very informative. Nearly brought me to tears. I loved the poems, they're beautiful and really helped to convey the story effectively and give insight to Pattyn's emotions.
